A project for CASTELLO DI BURCHIANO postmaster@castellodiburchiano.it
In the central southern area of Umbria region , between the Amerine hills and the foothills of the Martani Mountains, raises the historic core of Santa Lucia di Burchiano, a village built near the Burchiano Castle and the Benedictine church of Santa Lucia, built around the middle of the eleventh century .
Of the castle that, since 1500, has been abandoned, few ruins remain. The Benedictine Church, on the other hand, even if needs restoration work, is kept in good condition.
The village, today uninhabited for more than half a century due to the phenomenon of urbanization after World War II, which caused the abandonment of the countryside, has maintained over time the same plant, dimensions and architectural features that it had in 1300.
The agglomeration as a whole, for its historical features, the landscape and the proximity to important communication routes, generates visions of its recovery in line with contemporary needs for the quality of living in different areas, from the touristic as well as residential settlement, and with the experimentation of community life and technologies oriented towards an extended concept of sustainability.
The video presents a scenario of urban and architectural arrangement of the village of Santa Lucia di Burchiano aimed at encouraging investments to enhance its potential in the context of contemporary research aimed at the improvement of the quality of life.
